Our aim through the Geography curriculum is to develop children’s knowledge and understanding of the world while inspiring curiosity about physical and human processes and the interaction between them.
We teach CUSP Geography, which is built around the cumulative knowledge of spaces, places, scale, human and physical processes. There is an emphasis on building connections within learning and developing relational knowledge.
Key stage 1
In Key Stage 1 pupils develop knowledge of different environments in parts of the world, study their local area and learn about the UK and different continents. They learn about human and physical geography and begin to use geographical skills, including first-hand observation and mapping skills to enhance their locational awareness.
Key Stage 2
From Year 3 onwards, pupils extend their knowledge and understanding by learning about world cities, undertaking comparison studies of different locations and learn about grid referencing, latitude and longitude. They consider the impact of humans on the landscape and study physical geographical processes including rivers, the water cycle, mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes.
